Repayment: Understanding Your Loan Payments
Your loan repayment may start as soon as funds are disbursed to your school, following your individual payment schedule. Repayment is structured around two types of payments.
During School (In-School Payments)
These are smaller payments made while you're still in your program — a great opportunity to build healthy financial habits early.
- ✓Payments can range from a one-time payment to multiple payments throughout your education
- ✓Even making small payments (e.g., $10/month) can positively impact your credit scoreand improve your chances of successful repayment
- ✓Once your first in-school payment is scheduled, subsequent payments will continue on the 15th of each month
Post Graduation (Income-Based Repayment)
These payments begin after the graduation date that your school confirmed during the loan certification process.
- Payments: Your monthly payment is based on a percentage of your income, as outlined in your Income-Based Repayment Note. Think of it as your loan doing math on your behalf — the more you earn, the more you contribute, and vice versa.
- No update? If your income changes, let AES know. If you don't, we'll update your income annually based on the assumed salary for people in your career field — and your monthly repayment will update accordingly
- Early or full payoff: You can pay off the loan in full at any time with no penalties

Missed Payments and Delinquency Warning
Missing loan payments doesn't just affect your account — it follows you. A reported missed payment can drop your credit score significantly, making it harder to do things like rent an apartment, qualify for a car loan, or even land certain jobs. The good news is that, even if you miss a payment, making consistent, on-time payments going forward can help you rebuild your credit — and every positive payment is a step in the right direction.
- 0–30 days late: Late status
- 31+ days late: Delinquent — reported to credit bureaus each month if the loan remains delinquent
- 210+ days late: Account is reported as a defaulted loan and may be referred to a collection agency
- ⚠️ Once an account is reported to credit bureaus or sent to collections, the damage to your credit score is significant and difficult to reverse. If you need help, reach out to us at careercounselor@edly.com or contact AES at 800-233-0557 to stay ahead of your payments.
